Have you seen those cute unicorns pop up everywhere on social media? This past weekend we celebrated my daughters 2nd birthday and the theme was Magical Unicorn party. So a couple weeks ago I decided to make a unicorn piñata using a My little Pony Piñata by simply redecorating it.
But I am going to warn you, this Piñata isn’t something that you complete in one day. It is very time consuming. So I suggest starting well ahead of the party, at least a month in advance. You could finish this a lot sooner if you dedicate several hours each day working on it.
Here is the step by step of how I created this unicorn Pinata. The total cost of this piñata make over was approximately 25$. Which is a heck a lot better than paying 80-100$ on Etsy for one of this little things.
What You’ll Need are…
White Tissue Paper
Multicoloured Tissue of your choice (here I chose pastel colours)
Pink or Glitter Card stock for the horns
Step 1: Buy a My Little Pony Piñata from your local party shop or department store. Or you may use any other horse pinata
Step 2: Take off all of the tissues until you see the brown cardboard base. Don’t worry if you can’t take off all of the tissue pieces, it will be covered up with white tissue.
Step 3: Cover the unicorn in white tissue to hide the brown cardboard. This will help save time in the layering process of the white tissue.
Step 4: Start cutting the white tissue into small fringe like pieces while the piñata dries. Use smaller pieces of cut tissue for the legs and face and long pieces of tissue for the body. Don’t worry if your cutting is uneven or not straight. It won’t be noticeable as you later it on the piñata.
Step 5: Start layering the fringe tissue pieces. Starting from the bottom then going your way up. Remember less is more when it comes to liquid white glue.
Step 6: Continue this until all of the body of the horse is covered in white fringe. Ajust the size of the tissue as you go up. Remember to keep the fringes small as you go work your way up.
Step 6: Repeat 4, 5 and 6 for the tails and mane of the piñata but with different colour tissue paper. You can trim the
Step 7: Use the glitter or pink card stock paper and create a horn for the piñata. Then glue it on the centre of the forehead of the unicorn using a glue gun.
Step 8: Trim any extra edges to make it look neat.
Step 9: Add facial features of your choice!
Step 10: Add Candy! And your done!
Here is the Before and After of the Piñata.
